What Is a Buyer's Agent?

An excellent article from our friends at Realtor.com, and a question I get fairly often. The answer is almost always the same:

No. Your, first call should not be to the agent who is selling the house you are interested in.

In fact, your first call should be to your mortgage professional (there happens to be a contact form for a GREAT one on the right), and it is completely acceptable to ask them for a recommendation for a GREAT Realtor in your area.

In most cases, having a professional buyer’s agent working for you costs you nothing, and puts a great resource of information and tools in your hands. It is important to pick the right one – you need to be able to trust and work with this person, regardless of their credentials – but it’s worth the time up front to find a good match.
